Welcome to another edition of MJL Warm Ups!
Today, I have to introduce you to my long-time favorite warm up. It's a classic for the studio: Kitty Kat.
The exercise is a simple descending 5 note scale (Sol Fa Mi Re Do): Kitty Kitty Kitty Kitty Kat. It works with brighter vowels to find resonance, and switches between the back of the tongue (k) and the front of the tongue (t) as a simple tongue twister. Plus, I love cats!
This exercise comes from Dr. Folsom, my undergraduate and graduate teacher, now mentor, who always says, "Good teachers borrow; great teachers steal."
