MJL Warm Up- Chromatics
Intonation out of sorts? Want to challenge accuracy, agility and your ear? Try out this first in a series of chromatic MJL Warm Ups.
This basis of the exercise is fairly simple- we sing do , di, re, ri, mi, me, re ra, do- otherwise known as half steps ascending scale degrees 1 through 3, then descending 3 through 1. To start, I suggest counting the exercise rhythmically: (Up) 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, (down) 2, 3, 4, 1. After that, you might try representing the three large division with a syllable, like "yi". The final challenge is to sing the exercise through on a single vowel, feeling the subdivision underneath to help your accuracy, but making sure to tune without tension (watch your breath, jaw and tongue).
