MJL Voice Studio Student Spotlight- Emily Greene

Emily Greene has been studying voice for seven years, the last three with MJL Voice Studio. Prior to her formal voice studies, she found joy singing in chorale at L’Ecole Francaise du Maine. Emily has been involved in both choral and instrumental events, including District II and All State festivals. She has participated in musical events in both solo and ensemble capacities. She plays both the violin and the guitar, and she has been furthering her skills on the piano. She has received school music awards for both vocal and instrumental performances, and she recently placed in a NATS Maine Classical competition. She has also earned membership in the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Emily has been involved in multiple dance and theatrical performances, beginning when she was four years old. Her favorite theatrical roles have been Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Emma Carew in Jekyll and Hyde, Gabriella Montez in High School Musical, Gretl in The Sound of Music, and Jafar in Aladdin. Emily is happiest when she is on stage, performing.

Some of Emily’s most memorable and inspiring experiences have been participating in the children’s orchestra for The Magic of Christmas with the Portland Symphony Orchestra when she was seven, auditioning for and being part of the children’s chorus for Opera Maine’s production of Carmen when she was ten, and being a librettist for the opera “Girl in Six Beats” with six other girls when she was eleven. She has been a member of Opera Maine Teens for six years and is currently serving as the coordinator for the group. Emily is a senior in high school this year, and she will be applying to undergraduate programs to further her music performance and overall education.
